The title of this piece was inspired by Lauryn Hill's song 'To Zion' featuring Carlos Santana. A very good song and which lyrics stuck me like the thunderbolt. Sampler:
'Unsure of what the balance held,I touched my belly overwhelmed
By what I had been chosen to perform, But then an angel came one day
Told me to kneel down and pray.'
While slouched over my PC, trying to collect my thoughts and words for my regular columns on issues of Oil and Gas, my mind strayed to question if there is really a certainity to life. I am not trying to come off as deeply philosophical but would say this self-discovery mood may have been triggered by the master-act stringings of the acoustic guitar of Carlos Santana and the coo-ing voice of Lauryn Hill in that lovely song.
I have often pride myself as taking a mundane disposition to life, much to the consternation of my friends. Undoubtably, I believe in God and the fact that we should align our path in accordance with His purpose for us but sometimes one can be jolted into a crash course in philosophy. A philosophy to ponder if in this life, are there really certainties just like we know that after yesterday, there would be a tommorow.
I started this blog in 2006 and after two posts, it went into a period of lethargy. A lethargy that may have been set-off by the demands of our daily living. In this period, I left to the UK for a masters in Petroleum Taxation and Finance, plunged headlong in becoming an expert in the energy industry and grew a keener mind to make a change in our society. A sojourn that have strengthened my character in certain vocation of life and also left a gaping hole in other vital ingredients.
Taking a time off just for the moment writing on oily matters, from wondering if peak oil has finally reached and the world is finally at peril because Saudi Arabia may turn off the oil taps. I have come to the truism that it is in us to make it count, make life to count for all that it is worth. The self-evident truth that after the storm, there is the calm.
Welcome to my blog-Humphrey's Muses, I am happy to be back and we will do it. Just as our hearts have envisioned it, we will always overcome our fears.
Throbbing my head to the pulsating beats of Lauryn Hill and carlos Santana, I sing:
'Now the joy of my world is in Zion
Now the joy of my world is in Zion
How beautiful if nothing more
Than to wait at Zion's door'.
